Hello!
What an exciting hearing and first step to removing the billboard! Mary Solada, Bingham, Greenebaum Doll, Randy Frisk, Masthead, Ginny Cain, 5th District Councillor, Dana Scruggs, 25-year Geist resident, and Steve Talley, 11th District Councillor, all delivered compelling presentations. Our Appeal Committee and all the presenters on our behalf provided the BZA several arguments and visuals to support revocation of the billboard permit. We also submitted letters of support from Senator Jim Merritt, Lawrence Mayor Dean Jessup, and our 12th District Councillor, Mike McQuillen.
While the vote was unanimous in our favor, removal is another issue. The billboard owner will undoubtedly file an appeal, which could delay removal for quite some time. There may be a number of legal strategies available to the community, yet to be determined.
In the meantime, Mary Solada did an incredible job for our community. Her legal fees and copying costs through Thursday's hearing far exceeded the $5,000 retainer, (which we anticipated), so we need to keep fundraising to reach a minimum of $7,500 (less than what Mary would normally bill). We will be reaching out to all homeowner associations that have not yet contributed and are asking all individual residents who have not yet contributed, to make a donation on our crowd funding site: http://www.gofundme.com/8b225c. Members of this community will enjoy the benefit of their donations for year to come.
