Scott Dorn went for a routine visit at his Doctor's. He'd been having difficulty breathing and just wasn't feeling as well as what he thought he should. The doctor immediately sent him to the Emergency Room at the hospital. Xrays had shown a mass in his right lung, pneumonia behind the mass, spots on his liver, and blood clots throughout both lungs. He was then sent by ambulance to Spectrum in Grand Rapids.
More testing at Spectrum showed blood clots in both legs, and the adrenals and lymphs were compromised.
Diagnosis: Stage IV Lung and Liver cancer. No symptoms, no warning... just a complete blindsiding with the horrible and frightening diagnosis.
Massive amounts of blood thinners were needed to dissolve the blood clots. At one point two units of blood were needed. But thankfully Scott was able to spend Thanksgiving at home.
The diagnosis has been devastating and dealing with that is and continues to be painful. But along with that, let's be realistic... the medical and household expenses are now something to contend with. With Scott not being able to work, the bulk of the responsibility for everyday life, in addition to the mounting bills, now falls on Cathy. The incoming bills are incredible. The blood thinner copay alone is in excess of $600 per month. Cathy is seeing bill upon bill coming in.. and she will have to deal with a high deductible come the new year.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Chemotherapy and Radiation are a given at this juncture.
They are desperately going to need financial assistance, and your generosity will be a key in helping them battle what lies ahead. Just knowing that medical bills (alone) can be taken care of will take a huge weight off of their shoulders.
