Hola comunidad. Mi nombre es Diana Atehortua, tengo 30 años, soy colombiana y llevo 2 años viviendo y estudiando en Brisbane Australia. He sido muy bendecida por la vida y he tenido la oportunidad de hacer realidad muchos sueños. Sin embargo, hace algunos 6 meses empecé a detectar una masa pequeña en mi seno izquierdo. La verdad estuve monitoreando la masa durante todo este tiempo pero nunca sentí ningún tipo de dolor, cambio de color y tampoco sentí que estuviera creciendo descontroladamente. Hace 15 días decidí hacerme un ultrasonido y en el mismo sitio me solicitaron hacerme una mamografía y posteriormente una biopsia. Gracias a la rapidez en el sistema de salud de Australia, al día siguiente me dieron los resultados los cuales mostraron cáncer de seno grado 3. Hace una semana tuve mi cirugía en donde extrajeron el tumor y algunos ganglios linfáticos. Lastimosamente uno de los ganglios se encuentra comprometido por lo que tengo que empezar un tratamiento alrededor de 15 meses. El tipo de cáncer que me diagnosticaron es muy agresivo y puede expandirse rápidamente por lo cual debo empezar quimioterapia el 2 de enero de 2018. He decidido que quiero hacer mi tratamiento en Australia y no en mi país ya que lastimosamente en Colombia el sistema de salud es muy lento y no puedo perder tiempo esperando por autorizaciones que podrían comprometer mi vida. A pesar que el tratamiento en Australia podría costar alrededor de AUD 100.000, soy muy afortunada de tener cobertura cómo estudiante internacional, sin embargo existe un porcentaje "out of pocket" dinero que debo asumir que podría llegar a ser de más del 20%. Mi objetivo es poder seguir llevando mis estudios a cabo (requisito que debo mantener para poder conservar mi visa de estudiante) junto con una vida laboral que me permita asumir mis gastos de renta y comida, sin embargo los doctores me recomiendan cuidado especial durante los primeros ciclos del tratamiento (4 meses) y puede ser que se me dificulte trabajar. Adicionalmente, requiero asistencia de una persona que pueda ayudarme en algunas tareas diarias y mi intención es que mi madre pueda venir desde Colombia a darme una mano. Hoy chicos y especialmente chicas (autoexamen de seno contaste), les recomiendo mucho estar atentos a cualquier cambio significativo en sus cuerpos y sobretodo a no postergar temas de salud por ningún motivo. He decidido compartir mi historia para crear un poco de autoconciencia y para solicitarles un poco de ayuda en temas monetarios (sé que es molesto que nos pidan dinero, pero alivianaria un poco la carga). Agradezco mucho por sus oraciones y/o aportes y prometo por mí vida que lucharé con todo el amor y fuerzas posibles para convertir está historia en una experiencia de vida más.

Good day people. My name is Diana Atehortua, I am a 30 years old woman from Colombia and I have been living and studying in Brisbane Australia for about 2 years. I have been very blessed by life and have had the opportunity to make many dreams come true. However, some 6 months ago I began to detect a small lump in my left breast. Actually I was monitoring it during all this time but I never felt any pain, color change and I did not feel that it was growing uncontrollably. 15 days ago I decided to have an ultrasound and in the same place I was asked to have a mammogram and then a biopsy. Thanks to the quickness in the health system of Australia, I was given the results the next day which showed grade 3 breast cancer. A week ago I had my surgery where the lump was removed as were some lymph nodes. Unfortunately one of the lymph nodes is compromised so I have to start a treatment for about 15 months. The type of cancer that I was diagnosed with is very aggressive and can spread rapidly, so I must start chemotherapy on January 2, 2018. I have decided that I want to do my treatment in Australia and not in my country since the health system in Colombia is very slow and I can waste lots of time that could compromise my life. Although the treatment in Australia could cost around AUD 100,000, I am very lucky to have coverage as an international student, however there is an "out of pocket" percentage that I must assume and it could be more than 20%. My goal is to be able to continue carrying out my studies (requirement that I must maintain in order to keep my student visa) along with a working life that allows me to make money to keep my expenses of rent and food, however doctors recommend special care during the first treatment cycles (4 months) and it may be difficult for me to work. Additionally, I require assistance from a person who can help me with some daily tasks and my intention is that my mother can come from Colombia to help me out. Today guys and especially girls (breast self-examination), I highly recommend you to be alert to any significant changes in your bodies and especially not to postpone health issues for any reason. I have decided to share my story to create a bit of self-awareness and to ask for some help in monetary matters (I know it's annoying to be asked for money but it would lighten the burden a little bit). I thank you very much for all your prayers and / or contributions and I swear on my life I would fight this with all my love and strength.
