Imbroglio Sextet: From Haiti to the World — Our New Album
Twelve years ago, several of us met in Haiti while teaching and performing at a music camp.
We came from different countries. Some of us did not even share a common language. But we became friends, we started making music together, and something important began.
That experience changed us.
It changed how we think about music, collaboration, teaching, and what it means to build something with other people.
Now, after years of performing together in the U.S. and abroad, we are raising funds to record a new album.
This album is more than a recording. It is a way to capture the music we have built together, share it with more people, and help carry this ensemble into it’s next chapter.
Who is the Imbroglio Sextet?
We are an international ensemble made up of musicians from different backgrounds, countries, and musical traditions.
We did not come together through a conservatory or a formal institution. We came together through shared experience, friendship, and a deep musical connection.
Over the years, we have performed in concert halls around the world, schools, churches, conferences, libraries, and community spaces. Our ensemble has grown through travel, collaboration, and a willingness to say yes to new places, new people, and new music.
Our sound is unique. Trumpet, clarinet, and string quartet is not a standard combination. But that is part of what makes us special. Our music is shaped around the people in it, and over time, this has become our voice.
What We Do
We perform a wide range of music, including original works written for our ensemble, Haitian music, regional music from places we visit, and programs that move between classical, jazz, folk, and more.
But what we do goes beyond performance.
We are shaped by teaching, cultural exchange, outreach, and the belief that music can connect people across language, geography, and circumstance.
That is the center of who we are.
For some of us, that connection is deeply personal. For all of us, it has been transformative.
We have seen what music can do in people’s lives. We have experienced it ourselves. That is part of what keeps this group together.
About the Project
This year, we are coming together to record a new album.
Over the years, we have built a large repertoire of music for this group, including pieces written specifically for us. Much of that music has only lived in live performance.
This album will help us:
- preserve that music
- share it with a wider audience
- strengthen our artistic identity
- build momentum for future performances, partnerships, and outreach
It will also give new listeners a way to find us, hear us, and understand what this ensemble is about.
For a group like ours, that matters.
A live performance reaches the people in the room.
A recording travels much farther.
The Opportunity to Make an Impact
We are raising $15,000 to support the full album project, including:
- travel for ensemble members
- rehearsal and preparation time
- recording and production
- release, marketing, and distribution
- legal and administrative costs connected to the project
If you know one of us personally, then you know this project is real. You know the years of work, care, and commitment behind it. If you are meeting us for the first time here, we hope you can feel that too.
This is a chance to support artists, new music, collaboration across cultures, and a project that has grown from real relationships over many years.
Call to Action
If this story speaks to you, we would be grateful for your support.
This album is the next step for Imbroglio Sextet. It will help us preserve the music we have created together, reach new audiences, and keep building something that has already changed each of us in lasting ways.
If you know one of us, thank you for being part of the community that has brought us this far.
If you are just discovering us now, we are glad you’re here.
Please consider making a contribution, sharing this campaign, and helping us bring this album to life.
