In 2011 at age 49 our Mother, Graciela Beltran was diagnosed for the second time with Breast Cancer after having had a mastectomy in 2000 which was the first time she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Unable to qualify for medical insurance due to pre-existing conditions and high COBRA rates from our, at the time, recently deceased Fathers insurance plan. We were left with little resources to get help for our Mom. Unable to get help from numerous well known charities we took it upon ourselves to go the Holistic route and begin Gerson Therapy. With the help of Friends and Family we were able to put my Mom in Gerson Therapy to learn a new way of living and possibly curing her cancer. For over the course of a year she beat odds and prevailed with so many accomplishments that the Doctors said she couldn't do and surpassed the limits that anyone gave her. She juiced and became a Vegetarian, she hiked 7 miles a day with no problems, often passing us up on the trails without any trouble breathing, going dancing, taking trips and doing everything in her life with no limits. She was a cancer patient inside, but if you took one look at her,you would never have known from the surface what was going on in her body. Although Gerson did not cure her cancer, with Gods help, as well as the lifestyle change- our Mother was given so much more time to enjoy month after month of a much healthier Life. We were blessed to receive free care for our Mother almost three years later from the doctors at UC Irvine. Her tumor had grown so large during that time, that doctors were shocked at the fact that people in Third World countries did not have to go through what our Mom was dealing with. The amazing thing about our Mom is that not once has she ever complain about anything or feel sorry for herself and want to give up. She has always seemed to find the good in every situation she was put in, and remained positive every day no matter what news she was given. Numerous surgeries, chemo treatments, radiation therapies, blood transfusion, hospital admissions and back and forth doctors appointments. She always kept staying positive and ALWAYS had a smile on her face. The breast cancer made a turn for the worst a little after the removal of the large tumor. Of which shocked us all because we thought that that was going to fix everything. The cancer has now metastasized to her brain, blood, liver, bones and lungs. With recent finds of new tumors in her brain, she agreed to go through 10 more radiation treatments to stop the fast moving cancer. And on the 10th final treatment last week, her body began to shut down and was admitted to the hospital that day. Our Mother is still currently alive, and she will be moving with her eldest daughter and her Family to Northern California in a week. There will be no more treatments, no more chemo and no more radiation. This part of her life will be spent relaxing and being with Family. The radiation has left her current mental status a bit in a confused state, as the doctors said it would. Due to the fast changes in her body, she is unable to do pretty much nothing for herself without our help. The reason why this page has been set up, is not to rush things and give up hope that God may work a miracle on her, but to get in order things she has requested. One of the things our Mom wanted was to pre-arrange her funeral so we wouldn't be left in debt as we are with our Fathers unexpected death almost 6 years ago. Two of us are Navy Veterans, and were blessed to come in contact with a fellow Veteran who owns a funeral home that gave us a great deal and has allowed us time to get the money together. Since our Moms mid 30's she was never qualified for burial/life insurance policies due to her heart problems and cancer. So we are here to ask for the help from everyone. There will be many things she will need in order to make this part of her life as comfortable as possible. But We, her children cannot do it alone. Our Parents have taught us well, and we would do ANYTHING for our Mother. Things we thought we would never have to do, things we thought we were going to do when our Parents were "old" we find ourselves doing now. And although it gets really rough and heartbreaking, this same Woman who has always seen the beauty in all of this- is OUR Mother, so somewhere inside us, that part of her shines through all the bad and gives us the strength to continue to sacrifice our lives for our Mother with the same courage as she has. The goal amount we have listed is for pre-funeral costs, help with the groceries for the special items she intakes, medical supplies, a bed for her to be comfortable and easy for us to pick her up out of, and any adjustments needed to make it easier for her to be happy in her new home. We know people say how Amazing their Mother is, but for those who have never met our Mother-she is one of the most courageous, driven, motivated, loving and inspiring Beautiful woman you will ever meet. Please help us, and if there is nothing other than your prayers that you can donate, we will be forever grateful! Thank you so much. God Bless - The Beltran Family
