In Loving Memory of Anabelle Marie Pitre

On March 21, 2014 (World Down Syndrome Day) , we were blessed with Anabelle Marie Pitre, 5 1/2 weeks earlier than her due date. Along with Down Syndrome, she was diagnosed with AV canal defect and another heart defect that is not as common, singular ventricle defect (Hypoplastic heart syndrome). After a few hours of her birth, her only chance of blood flow to her body, the ductus arteriosus began to close. She began medication to prevent this, but as an effect of the medication she would forget to breathe. At only three days old, she was flown by helicopter to the Children's Miracle Hospital. Within a few days of her arrival the cardiologists and surgeons planned for her first heart surgery of the four that she would have to undergo.
During the transportation to the recovery room after her surgery, she coded. The surgeon began compressions and she soon had to rely on life support. The following day we were told that she hasn't shown any signs of movement and she may possibly be brain dead. "If she hasn't shown any movement by now, the odds of her waking up are very slim." That evening, we held a baptism for her. We stayed by her side, prayed, and cried. As my husband prayed for God to give us a sign, I began to play the song that I played for her while she was in my belly... Within an instant her arm lifted and her eyes opened. The entire Saturday was a miracle. She was so responsive to her family members' voices.
On Sunday, April 6, 2014 her vitals decreased and her blood tests became worse. She began a downward spiral. She passed away in our arms at 12:50 pm as God called her into his kingdom. I feel privileged to be able to say that I was her mother, and I feel blessed to have had her for those two weeks.
This Wednesday, April 16, 2014 we will hold her funeral service. We are appreciative of any donation amount and prayers. The donation will be used to assist with any funeral and medical expenses. Any excess we will distribute equally between Heartgift.org and the National Down Syndrome Society. Thank you for your time and prayers.
