Dear Family and Friends
My name is Rilei Beene, daughter of Paul and Onni Beene. I'm 12 years old and in the 6th grade. Two years ago, I started taking dance classes learning several different genres: Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Latin, Jazz, and African.
In January, I auditioned and was accepted to Dance Theatre of Harlem, In New York for the 2014 Summer Intensive Session. Yes, I was selected to go to the Big Apple where hundreds of kids, like me, both younger and older go to study dance. This is a huge opportunity for me. There are so few ballerinas of color being recognized. My mom said that this will allow me to refine my skills and work towards empowering myself through artistry and creativity, and I agree.
Being accepted to the program was the first hurdle and funding is the second. The expense of this trip is great; travel, tuition, room and board for 4 weeks, etc. My goal is to raise $4000. If you would help me by making a donation towards this expense, I would greatly appreciate it. I leave for this journey July 14, 2014. Please keep me in your prayers. Wish me God's luck!!
