Help Anastasia continue musical training

Hello everyone!

I've been playing the viola and violin since 1999 and singing for longer. I started out in the Memphis public schools and later playing in youth symphony and different classical ensembles in the Memphis area. Most of what I've learned from music, I have had to learn on my own, through personal study and practice.  It has only been until 2012 that I realized music can be more than hobby I teach myself. Since I've started making music my main work, I have approached life with a more genuine heart, increased awareness of my mind-body experience, listened more deeply to the voices of others, and gained some relief from economic poverty.

I am currently teaching a singing class with young kids in one of Asheville's largest public housing communities. In six months, I have recognized the power of music in cultivating holistic leadership, confidence, self-esteem, literacy, creativity, courage, and responsibility in young people. This experience inspires me to deepen my understanding of music and my potential to channel the power and beauty of music into shaping a more just, life-affirming world.

My wish is to rely on music as my economic anchor, my source for making a living so that I may fully help others. I feel that music is the only way that I can make a living without strugglng with my conscience or sense of purpose.  I believe music is my tool for inspiring others to lift themselves up, take responsibility for their lives, and shape their own worlds with a genuine loving heart. So on the journey to making music a sustainable profession, I got accepted into the Hayes School of Music (Appalachian State) and the UNC School of the Arts music school. Both schools have offered me a merit scholarship and need-based grant that cover 30% of tuition. They have also offered loans which cover the remaining balance. I am seeking $3,000 to help cover the cost of living while attending music school. The cost would cover books, music supplies, travel, room and board, and other living expenses for the 2014-2015 school year.

I truly hope that you are able and willing to offer, as an investment in my social transformation and artistic potential. I am more than happy to share pictures, videos, and recordings of my performances along the way. I am playing a recital on April 25 and plan to record it. I would love to share this recording with people who support my endeavors and wish to encourage me along this path. Gifts come in many forms. I welcome (and need) emotional encouragement to continue this work just as much as monetary support.

I appreciate all of your love. Please donate, share, pass on!

Thank you,

Anastasia
