Update November 15, 2017: Richard is weak and his recovery has been significantly derailed after falling in the hospital as a result of falling out of his bed.   Richard is going to be transferred to a nursing home soon and will need an undetermined amount of physical and occupational therapy.

As of October 13, 2017, Richard is still in ICU and is on a ventilator.  It will be a long road to recovery.

Washington D.C. - On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, around 10:00 pm, Richard Bond, an 88-year old white male was assaulted on Harvard and 14th while waiting in his car to pick up his 82-year old wife. There are no credible leads. The facts are as follows:

Richard's body was found half-way on the curb and half-way on the ground. It is unclear whether Richard was found facing up or down. Also unclear whether police or ambulance arrived first on the scene.
There is no video footage of the incident.
Witness testimony conflicts.

Police and treating physicians are reluctant to classify the crime as an assault: There is no direct credible evidence that Richard was assaulted. However, police and treating physicians agree that the injuries Richard suffered are consistent with an assault.

Monday, October 9, 2017: Detective Gamble left flyers on doors indicating that he was looking into an incident involving an elderly man that was possibly assaulted. People who answered the door told the detective they were concerned about the recent homicide which is still an open investigation.

No real cameras: There was a homicide on this street a few weeks ago. In response, an apartment building nearby set up a dummy camera, that is, the camera was non-operational. If video footage existed, it would be published on the Metropolitan Police Department YouTube page and people with tips could call the anonymous tip line (202) [phone redacted] or text 50411.

Two witnesses provided the following:
The first witness: a 20 year old female walking into her apartment about a 1/2 block away said she saw Richard standing on the sidewalk "talking" with a taller black male. However, Richard would not have been standing on the sidewalk without his cane; his cane was still in the backseat of the car. One of Richard's sandals was also still in the car when he was found on the ground.
The second witness who found Richard on the ground said the person who assaulted Richard got into a white car with license plate starting with "FM" and drove off. It is unclear who called 911 and what was reported.

Here is how you can help:
If you have any information, please reference Police Report Number: 17-171812 when you call the anonymous tip line (202) [phone redacted] or text 50411.
Donate to the GoFundMe Page. Richard's wife, Barbara, is offering a $1000 reward for credible information that leads to an arrest. Any funds raised by the GoFundMe page will be donated to a charity of Barbara's choice that will help prevent violent attacks on the elderly and crime in our community. Amount of medical expenses are unclear at this time because it will be a long road to recovery.
