NYU & the Big Apple

I would like to start by thanking you for taking time to visit my GoFundMe page.
This ask is mainly going to family, friends, etc., but feel free to pass this along. I will graciously accept kindness from strangers. So for those who may not know me, my name is Alejandro Abarca. Most people know me as Alex. I am a working dance-artist in the wonderful city of Atlanta, Georgia. However, I hail from my beloved hometown of Houston, Texas.
That is where this story begins. I grew up the youngest of four kids in an inner-city neighborhood (Northside proud), just ten minutes from downtown Houston. My parents realized that in order to give us a better education, we had to be bussed to better schools in better neighborhoods. Through those gifted and talented programs, I was exposed to art and creative expression.
I have gone from being that little Mexican boy dancing for friends and family in my grandma's living room to dancing in theaters for strangers because I enjoy connecting with people through dancing and performing. Since childhood, I have dreamt about moving to New York and making a life creating art for people. After a few failed attempts of trying to get my bite of that big apple, I am very close to fulfilling that dream.
I, recently, was accepted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts as a MFA candidate. I was given a small amount in scholarships. However, it isn't enough to cover all the expenses of school (books, etc.) and not to mention the cost of living. I am not opposed to hard work and am saving money best I can, but could still use some help. Any and all money will be used to take care of school fees like tuition deposits, books, etc., and to ease the transition from life in Atlanta to NYC.
My grandparents immigrated from Mexico when my father was three, in hope of giving their future generations opportunities they could never have. I would be the first one of my generation to venture into graduate level studies. I hope to be a role model for younger family members and any person who has ever dared to dream. Again, I humbly thank you for reading my story (in a nutshell) and for any support you are able to offer.
