Robert O'Brien, the caring husband of our colleague and friend Colette, passed away on 4/21/14 at noon.
Here is what happened and why we are asking for your help:
On March 31, Robert fell in the early morning and got a head injury that required stitches. He felt well enough to go about his day-to-day activities, but throughout the week he was not feeling 100%. On Monday, April 7, he had a seizure while getting ready for work and was taken by ambulance to San Francisco General Hospital. Doctors discovered that Robert had a viral infection causing severe swelling in his brain. It is not clear whether the infection was already there on the day he fell. Every attempt was made to fight the infection, but the damage caused by the encephalitis was just too devastating to overcome and, after 3 weeks in the hospital in critical condition, Robert passed away peacefully with Colette by his side at noon on April 21, 2014. The family is extremely grateful for all the prayers and the outpouring of support during this difficult time..
Colette and their children are taking it hour-by-hour and day-by-day. Many of you want to help. This is one way to do so.
