The origianl description to this fund raiser for my sister, Logan, was about her accident in February 2014. I haven't removed it...you can still read it below.
Now her greatest need is funds to pay the people that take care of her. She's kind of stuck between a rock and a hard spot. It is necessary for her to stay where she is for the time being, but to stay there is finanacially difficult. At the same time, even if she could move to a different location, at this point another place has not been located.
So, we keep on, keepin' on. We continue to keep our eyes on the Lord, believing His truths, trusting His promises. He has already answered so many prayers, and He faithfully leads one step at a time.
In the original post I said that her round-the-clock need for help would last 30 days. She came home June 17, and she still needs care for the hours she's awake. This is October 2. The recovery from this fall is taking much, much longer than any of us anticipated. She also has incurred several infections because she doesn't have the care she needs daily...hourly. These have taken a huge toll on her.
Because this recovery is taking so much time daily--therapy, bathing, toileting, finding someone to help her when a caregiver doesn't show up, training someone new--she's not been able to work at her computer and on the phone. That's how she makes a living...she's a fantastic administrator-type person...very organized, thinks quickly on her feet, considers all sides/angles. She's also fluent in Spanish and has taught herself a little bit of French. I may be a little biased, but my sister is uber talented.
Adding the medical bills to the care-giving needs to the regular household bills and the needs of her sons is adding financial stress to the already demanding situation Logan and her boys are in.
Please help my sister. Every dollar counts. If you don't feel comfortable giving on this site, our dad and I set up a special account at Wells Fargo Bank (way back when we were raising money for the lift). My sister, Logan, is a warm, caring person. She honors the Lord with how she lives her life. I find this a very strange position in which to be...asking for money so my sister can go home from the hospital to get back to some kind of normalcy, but "here" is where we are. On February 27 of this year, while minding her own business, life happened.
Logan fell in her bathroom, breaking both legs. She shattered her tibia in her left leg, requiring a steel plate to be put in her leg; thankfully, the break in her right leg was not as severe; the broken bone was a non-weight-bearing bone.
Her mobility was already a daily struggle.
Logan was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy 31 years ago as a sophomore at Oklahoma Baptist University. She is now permanently disabled; she uses a power chair as her legs and feet. Adding two broken legs to an already dibilitating diagnosis has been excrutiatingly painful and pretty overwhelming for her.
The Lord blessed her with two incredible sons, Caleb and Jonathan; they are 20 and 17. After more than two decades of marriage, Logan is now a single mom. She offices from home to earn an income for her family.
Her doctor says that she may bear weight, and begin therapy to get back to pre-injury standing, sometime near the end of May. The extended hospital stay that is necessary with such an injury (she's been in three different hospitals since February 27), her inability to work to support her family, the equipment and care necessary to move forward to a future that includes independent living--these are all expenses that have grown rather large, rather quickly.
We are asking for help! Logan needs $28,884.00 almost immediately to cover costs. Medicare will cover only so much.

She is in a skilled nursing facility as of this date (April 10, 2014); she'll be leaving there sometime before the end of May to go home (hopefully by May 22). We need $6,384 to pay for the skilled nursing facility. This is the cost after Medicare (the only insurance she has).
When she comes home she will need a lift to move her from her bed to her bathroom and chair, and from her chair to her bed and bathroom. This will cost $18,000.00, and it will take three weeks to get it installed once the company receives the money.
Logan will also require professional round-the-clock care until she can safely move from her chair to her toilet and bed, bed to chair, and chair to standing. We've looked into it, and we estimate it will cost $4,500.00 to pay for care for approximately 30 days after she comes home. By then she should be safely able to stand.
We ask for your prayers for continued healing of those bones, progress in her therapy, and patience and peace during this process for her and the boys.
