Let's Get Kyle Home!

As some of you may know our nephew, Kyle Fargas, has been in Children's Hospital of Los Angeles since January 14, 2014 suffering from Osteomyelitis of his hip (a complication resulting from chemotherapy treatments for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which was diagnosed in August of 2012).  He has been in excruciating pain for almost 5 months now, having gone through 6 different surgeries, 4 IV antibiotic regimens and continously taking in numerous high dose pain narcotics.  The doctors have not been successful in getting rid of this horrendous bacteria.  In fact, studies have shown that osteomyelitis is extremly difficult to treat.  It requires different types of antibiotics (whichever the body will react to) and numerous surgeries that could take several months and sometimes a year to treat.  In Kyle's case, oftentimes doctors are caught between treating the osteomyelitis or focusing in on the Leukemia (whichever is the lesser of two evils for that day).  At this time, the doctors have not proposed any new surgeries that can eliminate the bone infection since it has been a challenge trying to isolate it.



There is still no timetable for his recovery, so his stay at the Children's hospital is indefinite.  Kyle remains bedridden, down to 120 pounds due to loss of appetite, extremely weak and oftentimes screaming bloody murder from the pain.  Due to his inspiring brave battle to live, Kyle's dream of going to college (and continuing his straight A grades) has been put on hold for now.  But his spirit is unwavering and he is looking forward to that special day when he is no longer bedridden, able to walk again on his own and more importantly back into his normal teenage routine.



As you can imagine, his medical bills have been piling up with no end in sight and with hardly any college money left due to his hospitalization.  It is heartbreaking to know that Kyle struggles to live everyday and his family is challenged to make ends meet.  With your help, we can give some much needed relief to my brother-in-law, Dennis "Manny" Fargas, and his family who have suffered emotionally, physically and financially in their support of Kyle.  We thank you for whatever level of donation you can afford to provide this talented young man a brighter future.  Your kindness and loving support will be appreciated by his family for many years to come.
