Peace Flag Project

Inspired by Langston Hughes's Dream Poem series and Tibetan prayer flags, my Peace Flag project is an expression of children's dreams and wishes. This project is a fundraising effort in which, through community workshops and activities, I will guide my community in creating Peace Flags to adorn an organic garden being currently sponsored and supported by Radnor Middle School and Kuchanga Travel in cooperation with Slow Foods International's 1,000 Gardens in Africa Initiative at Bupala Primary School in Uganda. 

As the artist in residence, I will host and lead in- and out-of- school workshops in the next two months that will provide students and members of the community with an opportunity to create Peace flags of their own. Every flag that is purchased and decorated will allow a student-gardener in Uganda to create a flag, as well. With help and support from friends, family and the community, I hope to collect a total of [phone redacted] peace flags that will wave in the Bupala Primary School organic garden as a symbol of hope, compassion, love and support. Flag making workshops will be a hands-on process of designing and creating a flag that in result, will be brought to and fly in the organic garden at Bupala Primary School by the end of June 2014.

Help me make it to Africa this summer so that I can complete the development and installation of my Peace Flag project at Bupala Primary School in June of 2014! All donations will go solely to the Peace Flag art project.
