Jim Schull Living with ALS

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ...ALS... Is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that robs the body of it's ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2to5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone at any time. There are no effective treatments, no cure.
  You can truly make a difference in the fight and life of Jim as he take on this battle. Any amount you feel comfortable giving is deeply appreciated. Jim is unable to work now as of February of this year, he was diagnosed in January and was told he could not go back to work. It is hard to determine when he started with the ALS, we feel it was probably about a year by the time they did all the tests they could to determine that it is ALS. Jim has already lost the use of one arm and most of his other arm as well. He is having difficulty walking now and the muscles are dying in his legs also. He has been fitted for leg braces and he has to use a walker now. The Dr's have set him up with PT at Gaylord hospital once a week and he will be getting fitted for a electric wheel chair made specifically for him. As this disease progresses we have to depend on the Dr's to inform us of his needs and the changes we have to make in our home to allow him to be able to stay home and be taken care of by me. We understand eventually Jim will need a full time nurse. The cost of all this goes way beyond our means.
