The Good Hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan

Donation protected
So, today the good hearts of our eldery parents, Bernard and Anne Sullivan, were scammed out of $2,000 by villianous people. (Important note, none of the following story is true except for the part where my parents lost money - my brother is not injured nor was he ever arrested for causing an accident.)

In short, my father received a call from someone claiming to be from the Franklin Police Department while my mother was out. The individual told my father that my brother had been in a bad accident and had also been arrested for causing the accident and for causing damage to the building he struck. He even disguised his voice at one point claiming to be my injured brother. My father took the phone number to reach them, and when my mother returned she called the "Officer" back. With $2,000 wired to them, they would "release" Michael. The "Officer" suggested that my mother go to her local CVS and buy items called Green Cards, these are basically debit cards which you can add money to in any value you wish. They are a legitimate form of payment, except when criminals are trying to scam the elderly out of their precious financial assets. So, my mother left the house, went to the bank, withdrew the money, and bought four of these Green Cards for $500 each. She then called, providing the card numbers, and the officer promised my brother's release shortly and that he would call immediately.

Sadly, only after calling my sister-in-law did my mother realize she had been scammed. Typical of my mother, she is considering it water under the bridge and a lesson learned. I asked my mother why she didn't stop to call me and ask for help. Her response nearly brought me to tears, she said "Brendan, when someone tells you that your son, your own flesh, is hurt and in trouble, you don't think - you act. I thought that he was being truthful because why would someone fake something like this?" She is just thankful that no one is injured and believes the people that did this will get theirs in due time. Her sons on the other hand, well, we can't just take this as an unfortunate lesson. Our parents raised us as individuals who take action when they see an injustice like this - and so we are.

With great appreciation for your friendship, no matter how close or how casual, and belief in your generosity and good naturedness, Michael and I kindly ask that you consider a small gift to help our parents replace the $2,000 that the scum of the earth preyed on them for today. We greatly appreciate your kindness to our parents - many of you consider them family and friends. They are the most kind-hearted, generous people who would give the last nickel they had for someone they loved. Today, they gladly gave to help a son they thought was in need - that is the blind love they possess. Unfortunately, they do not live in a world of like-minded people for if they did this globe would be a far better place.

Today I was so angry, and still am - literally sick to stomach for most of the day. But then I talked to my mother in the afternoon and she was just so thankful no one was hurt and said "hey, it's only money". Her blind love began to quell my anger and made me realize the reactions of disbelief Michael and I shared this afternoon are because of Mom and Dad. Raised by wonderful parents, we can't beleive that someone would be so immoral as to do this to our elderly people.

My parents are unaware that we are doing this, but thanks to social media I am sure they will find out in due time. We appreciate your generosity in advance - be it the price of a cup of coffee or something more. People rallying to support the kind hearts of great parents would make me smile and more than suppress the evil that preyed upon them today.

Michael and I have committed to making contributions and will also fund any difference that is left if we don't raise our goal. Also, in the case that we exceed the goal of $2,000 all proceeds will donated to a charity close to our family, the Spina Bifida Association of Greater New England.

Thank you for taking the time to read. Please feel free to share this with anyone you wish - not necessarily to donate but I want to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else's parents.

Help us realize that there is some good in the world today.

With gratitude,
Brendan and Michael Sullivan

P.S. If you want the phone number the scammers gave to call them back, let me know - I will gladly give it to you. I have called multiple times today but the cowards haven't picked up. I beleive God will forgive me for the messages I have left...
