Stem Cell Transplant for Cheryl (CIDP)

We're coming to you on behalf of our friend, Cheryl McCandless, who has a disease called CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demylinating Polyneuropathy). This disease is similar to Multiple Sclerosis. Cheryl has been battling this debilitating disease for 9 years. Her immune system is eating away at the myelin covering on her nerves; nerves that help with motor function and sensory function. This disease progresses over time and can leave individuals paralyzed and unable to function on their own. Up until recently, there was no cure, only management of the disease.

But now there has been great progress in Russia with a treatment called Hemopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT). Using Cheryl's own stem cells, she can be cured and live a normal life as wife and mother. Cheryl has been accepted into the program for this treatment and will go to Moscow in August of 2014. The cost for the treatment is $45K and insurance does not cover the procedure.
