Cancer treatment

This past July after a series of tests it was discovered that I have the very beginning stages of prostate cancer.

Apparently prostate cancer runs in my family. My father and two uncles receive treatment and have been cancer free.

I currently live in the country of Latvia as a missionary. I do not have health insurance and to even try to get treatment in the United States would be enormously expensive without any insurance.

I rather get the treatment here in Latvia so I can be close to my family and friends. Latvia does have the latest advancements in prostate cancer treatment. It was decided that I would start treatment in November after my United States ministry tour. In November I would go through different consultations to see what the best treatment option would be for me. Of course this isn't free and I'm unqualified to get a reduce in cost because I'm not a Latvian citizen. I was told that my cancer treatment would range between $10 to $15,000. The options before me is radiation, chemo, laser surgery, or complete removal of the prostate. Because it's just beginning I do not want to go for the removal of the prostate.

So this fundraiser is to raise the needed funds for my treatment. I will admit I am somewhat nervous and unsettled and have never raised funds for medical situations before. But I want to be able to tackle this while it is just beginning. I've been in the country of Latvia for 12 years and I believe there's so much work still to be done here.
