Oliver's Story

Many of you may already have heard, but our dear friends Sarah and Kevin, recently had their baby Oliver at 25 weeks gestation on July 6th. Here is Oliver's journey so far:

He was born in an emergency C-section after Sarah started losing a lot of blood while going into pre-term labor. Born at 1 lb 14 oz, he was in stable but critical condition and was transferred to Texas Children's Hospital. The transfer went well, he was a 1 on a scale of 0-4, 0 being the best, and the doctors said he was doing really well for a 25 weeker.

That Saturday, Sarah was released from the hospital and went to see Oliver and got to touch him for the first time! Oli's breathing and blood pressure were very consistent, but his nutrition tube slipped on Sunday. Monday, the doctors put in a larger IV line, which was risky for a baby Oliver's size, but it went well!  He will get more nutrition that lasts longer and Sarah could hold Oliver soon!

Sarah and Kevin are some of the strongest, most faithful and steadfast people I know. They love people really well and carry people in their hearts. I have only seen a glimpse into what they are going through, and although they've said it's been a shaking, scary rollercoaster of a process, they have responded with tremendous faith, hope and courage.

How you can help

Bascially from here on out, Oliver will stay at Texas Children's until he reaches his due date in October. We are raising money for the Cochrans to help them with any medical bills from Oliver's stay and anything else they might need in transitioning from a family of two to a family of three. If you aren't in the position to financially support them, then please pray! Pray for Oliver to get all the nutrition he needs from the new IV, for his lungs to develop fully, for him to be strong, for Sarah and Kevin to get rest and remain hopeful. Let's surround the Cochran family in love, prayer and support!

Here's the story behind Oliver's name, which is something you could also pray over him during this time: "Oliver Theodore Cochran. We named Oliver after the olive branch that the dove carried to Noah in Genesis 8. The olive branch was a symbol of new beginnings, of peace, of life, and of hope. Our son has the name Oliver in faith that he'll bring the same hope and peace to everyone he meets and every room he enters."
