The Lange Family Fund for Baby Reese

Donation protected
On Monday, March 31st at 12:02pm, Reese Lee Lange, a beautiful strawberry blonde baby girl weighing 7 lbs, 8 oz was born to Summer and Craig Lange.  Summer and Craig were over the moon in love with their new, precious, seemingly perfect, healthy baby, and took her home from the hospital that Wednesday.

Within an hour of getting home, Summer was unable to rouse Reese from sleep to nurse, and she and Craig thought it was best to return to the hospital, for what they thought would be just a little extra help waking her up.  Unable to rouse her, the doctors became concerned and tests on Reese indicated that she had low body temp, and dehydration was setting in.  The pediatrician decided she should stay in NICU overnight to get her warmed up and started administering fluids. She began having seizures, so they sent her to the neurologist in Temple, TX.  There, a diagnosis was thought to be a genetic disorder in which Reese is unable to process proteins, causing her ammonia levels to raise to toxic levels.  This caused swelling in her brain and seizures.  Reese was able to receive a medication which lowered her now life threatening ammonia levels, (ONE bag left in the whole hospital, PRAISE JESUS), and it was decided she would be lifeflighted to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston to get the care she would need.

At Children's, the diagnosis was confirmed.  Reese has a rare, genetic disorder called Citrullinemia, which is a urea cycle disorder, that causes a toxic cascade of events when Reese's tiny body tries to process protein.  Only about 1 in 57,000 babies born in the United States has citrullinemia.  Although manageable, Reese will receive lifelong treatment in order to keep her alive and healthy.

Summer and Craig now begin their journey with Reese to manage this with the help of doctors, nurses, their family, and their friends.  It will be lifelong journey for all of them, but one in which they don't walk alone.  Please use this site as a means to offer financial support for medical bills, and as well as to help support them as they are displaced from home in order to be with Reese.   Summer and Craig wish to say thank you for your continued support and prayers.

In Him,
Kathleen
