Buried deep beneath 3 meters of mud, rocks, and boulders is Marga’s driveway, shed, cars and much more

Buried beneath 3 meters of mud, rocks, and boulders is Marga’s driveway.

Her livelihood buried! GONE!! Her car upturned by the massive mudslide, the house with mud nearly to your knees. The tool shed buried under everything. Her spirit broken, her livelihood gone at 85! Stricken with grief not knowing what to do first. At 85 how does one do it?

On behalf of Marga, I would like to ask for help, she needs to start again and get back on her feet.

For the past five years, I have been running ‘Inspirational Living Retreats’ at Solitude Retreat in the Numinbah Valley, in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Marga who is 85 and her daughter Debbie have put their heart and soul into providing a beautiful space for transformational work. Life changing shifts have happened in the ancient rainforest with kookaburras and whip-birds.
At the end of March Solitude Retreat with Marga inside, was minding its own business when from nowhere (well North) Cyclone Debbie came and caused massive damage and horrid t.urmoil!

Marga who 1 1/2 weeks prior had suffered a heart attack, and some guests were trapped inside and then evacuated; Marga has been doing her best to clean up ever since.

Whilst visiting the Gold Coast for Mothers Day I paid a visit to support Marga. It broke my heart to see what has happened and I said to Marga I will do something to help. She declined as Marga would, however, I explained, all the ladies who had been on my retreats would so love to support in some way. I know other leaders who have run workshops would also like to support her. Reluctantly she said, “well okay, this would be helpful.” So, I’m asking you to please help support Marga and Debbie get their property back up to somewhere firstly they can live and secondly to re-establish their livelihood.

Solitude was hit with over 900mm of rain, causing mud, trees, pieces of road, rocks, and boulders to come smashing down onto their home and surrounds. The mountain above and parts of the road gave way. This has literally crushed them. The council is dragging their feet and the insurance company declares they are not covered because it’s a natural disaster. Sad but true!

The driveway is inaccessible, one concrete and two large stainless steel water tanks were pushed over as if they weighed nothing sending massive amounts of water raging towards the house. The water pump to the house is wrecked, the shed with all the tools is buried and so much, Gone, Gone, Gone!

Family and friends are doing all they can, however, it is bigger than them and they need our help, please.

Solitude Retreat is exactly this, peaceful, tranquil and a little piece of heaven nestled amongst the rainforest. I am focused on supporting it to get back to how it was. Money is needed for many things like - clearing the rubble with machinery as it’s too much to do with just a shovel (look at Marga (photo) sitting on her driveway), purchasing a chainsaw to get rid of the hundreds of trees in the way, rebuilding the driveway, rebuilding the carports, fixing and reconnecting power to the cabins, repairing the cabins, relocating massive amounts of mud and boulders, clearing the mud and rubbish washed into the house, repairing the house, getting second hand transport for Marga, re-building, re-building and re-building and the list goes on.

We will rebuild, we will get Solitude Retreat back up to its awesomeness. We are asking for your beautiful help and thank you from the bottoms of our hearts in advance for your generous support. We will post pictures of the progress, we will hold the space for the insurance company and council/main roads to do the right thing.

In the meantime, here’s to rebuilding and supporting Marga, Debbie and everything 'Solitude Retreat has been able to offer so many people who have experienced for a workshop/retreat/recovery etc!
