Help for Nevaeh

/>When we were 34 weeks pregnant we had gone to our OBGYN for one of our normal wellness checkups. We were very relieved to have had a normal pregnancy everything by the book, and never dreamed that we would be entering a total nightmare after this checkup!!  The nurse had done her usual routine and then had started the doppler. As soon as she found our baby girl's heartbeat we knew something was very wrong. So they decided to order an ultrasound for us, and to our dismay we found out that her heartrate was above 260 beats per minute. (A normal baby's heartrate is anywhere from 130-170 beats per minute.) We were then sent down immediately to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics where we found out that our precious baby girl had a very large Rhabdomyoma tumor on her heart which was causing it to beat so fast./>This wasn't her only problem, they also had diagnosed her with Fetal Hydrops which is fluid that gets built up around her heart, as well as Pediatric Pulmonary Hypoplasia.They had only given her about a 6% chance of survival. But we were not giving up hope on our little angel that we had tried so hard over the course of over 2 years to get. SHE HAD TO MAKE IT!!!Over the course of the next few weeks the team of AMAZING Doctors, my wife Bobbi, and I decided to treat her fast heart rate with special drugs that would pass through me to get to her that would control her heart rate. They wanted to try and buy as much time as possible as they just didn't know what would happen if they delivered her too early. They wanted her as strong as possible to give her the best chance to face the unknown. We ended up meeting with a panel of Doctors that entailed of Pediatric Cardiologists, High-Risk OBs, Neonatologists, as well as Nurses, and Nurse Practioners. She faced odds that were not in her favor, and it was talked about that she might not even make it to delivery. But even though the odds were stacked against her it was decided I would undergo a C-Section to help bring her into this world. So the next week went by and on Monday March 31st Nevaeh Juliette came into this world at 10:32am. She had made it here, and we were over the moon happy!!! :) She was then taken to the N.I.C.U. where she was put on an ocilating ventilator, as well as numerous tests, and drugs to help get her stable. And with the fantastic team of Neonatologists, Cardiologists, and Nurses she has so far beaten the odds and has proven herself to all that didn't think she would make it!!! :) So here we are a week later after her birth, and both her mother and I are elated that she has fought so hard to be here with us! She is our little miracle and even though we were thrown into this journey we are so glad that it so far has a happy ending.... or even a beginning!!! We are just taking things day by day and even though she is critical each day brings sunshine as she proves more and more that she WILL beat the odds!! :) Thank you for taking the time to read her story and hope that in someway we have been able to reach out to others.Sincerely,Kari, Bobbi, and Baby Nevaehxoxoxo
