Hi everyone
we really could use your help if you are able…
Mya was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016 and had two craniotomies when she was only 15 months old. Although the doctors did not think Mya would make it, she fought hard and thrived. Many days of therapy, exercise, treatment, but even more of giggles, tea parties, and adventures with her older sister Avry and other friends/family.
Unfortunately, our journey has taken a difficult turn and Mya had to have an emergency, 3rd craniotomy this past month of November—two months after her 7th birthday. Her tumor grew slowly and significantly, and due to the sensitive location in the brainstem/mid-brain, surgery very was difficult.
What can you do? Please send us your positive thoughts and prayers.
Due to this surgery, Mya has lost control of her gross and fine motor skills; she has impaired vision, cannot speak as she did, cannot hold her neck stable nor control of her trunk (cannot sit upon her own) …she cannot control her arms/legs and needs full assistance with all things. A lot of “can’t s” right now, but we are not discouraged.
The good news is Mya is here—she is tough and has a strong will. As Mya is 7 years old, with rigorous therapies (both traditional and untraditional), her brain can re-create new pathways to hopefully allow her to overcome many of these deficits and live a life with greater quality.
If you can contribute financially, we would truly appreciate any help—nothing is too small! Through our journey over the last 5 or so years, we have exhausted all our resources and would appreciate any means available to us to help Mya. We have an ever-growing pile of expenses—especially as not all treatment/travel is covered through our traditional insurance.
A new site will be started for Mya shortly, and there I will update regularly with how Mya is doing (videos and pictures will be shared). In the meantime, please consider sharing my story with your community.
