Daniel's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On February 19, 2018, my nephew Daniel, my father, and two of my brothers were involved in a serious car accident near our home on Cape Cod. My father and brothers were thankfully not seriously injured, however, Daniel was flown to Tufts Hospital in Boston with head trauma. Daniel was sedated for the first several days following the accident to undergo testing to determine the severity of his injuries. The medical team has officially diagnosed Daniel with Diffuse Axonal Injury, which involves damage to the white matter of the brain. It is yet to be determined what this injury means for Daniel's future. Currently, he is non-verbal and does not use his right arm or hand, nor does he make visual contact. He seems to be in pain when he is awake as he mostly cries. The good news is that he has already made great strides. He is awake, has partial use of his left side and can feed himself.

What we do know is that Daniel will need extensive physical, cognitive, and emotional rehbilitaion in order to regain the functions he has lost. The rehab will be in-patient in Boston and will last several months. The cost of this rehabilitation, plus lodging for my sister, meals, parking in the city, and any other related costs, will be a burden. I have created this campaign in the hopes of lessening some of that burden for my sister and her family, her husband Daniel, and her children Lily, Violet, Ava, and Seamus.
