Horrific Car Crash Injures Derby Family
On Friday 4th April, one of our amazing, dedicated Gladstone Roller Derby girls, Tan 'Bustan Bawls' Wilko, was in a horrific head-on car crash. Her 3 children: Abi, Tobi (8 y.o) and James (6 y.o) were passengers at the time. James broke his arm and has some bruising, Tobi suffered a compound fracture to her hip, concussion and serious bruising. Busty had her big toe almost severed and needed surgery to reattach. She has also torn muscles in her hip.
Busty's youngest daughter, Abi, is just 3 years old. Emergency Services had to resuscitate her multiple times on the road side and was put in an induced coma. Tomorrow she will go to surgery to have screws put into the back of her skull and her spine as she has broken her neck. Right now, Abi cannot breathe on her own and is still in an induced coma. Doctors believe she may be a paraplegic and never walk again.
Busty is one of the most dedicated people our league has ever met. She has worked tirelessly, helping organise our bouts and working her butt off to succeed as a skater. Like all mums, her kids are her world and she is absolutely and completely devastated by the crash, her kids injuries, and the news that her tiny, beautiful little angel may never walk again.
Busty's family is staying with her now, being away from home this is a massive expense. With the news that Abi may be a paraplegic, there is a whole host of medical expenses and impact on their lives.
