A year and a half ago, through Big Brothers Big Sister, I gained an 11 year old little brother in my life. I'm not going to use names here for the sake of privacy, but my little brother and his mother are in trouble. She suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and Lupus which has made it incredibly difficult to keep a job, often being immobilized by a combination of symptoms for days at a time. She does a great job providing for her son and there is no shortage of extra circulars ranging from robot building to horse-back riding. However, permanent housing for the 2 of them has been difficult for her to afford. About a year ago, they were fortunate enough to find a living situation with a kind, sight-impaired lady. They were able to help her be more comfortable while she was able to help them out with a roof over her head. She has opted to move into an apartment as even with their help, the house has proven difficult to keep up. Basically, they have nowhere to go at this point. They've sought help from every local non-profit that exists and are meeting a bunch of dead ends. Fortunately, they've been assigned a case manager at Helen Ross McNabb and they are working very hard to help. My hope, with our help, is to get some money together for them to find a place to stay while they wait. Additionally, the storage unit that has been housing many of their personal and sentimental items is past due and will go to auction early this week. Hopefully we can get together enough money to also prevent this, but it may be too late at this point. I know no one has much money and it's difficult to help even if we want to. Please feel free to give any amount, no matter how small. Thanks for the help!
