On January 13, 2014 my son Brandon had a large stroke.  This is not a normal thing to happen to a 16 year old.    This has greatly affected his left side.  We are still waiting for a few more test results to officially have a diagnosis.  He spent over 2 months at NYU being in the hospital and going through 2 surgeries: one a craniectomy  to help relieve swelling of the head and in March a cranioplasty to replace the bone in his head.  In between the two surgeries he had 6-7 weeks of intense therapy.  He has since had some improvement with his left leg where he can sometimes walk around one block at home before he gets tired.  He has some movement in his left shoulder and elbow.  The therapy he has received so far at RUSK has been wonderful but he will continue to need up to years of therapy including the use of this electric stimulation bike that he just started using a few weeks prior to leaving RUSK.  This bike called the  rt300 fes bike can give a new level of independence and contol, prevent or reverse muscle atrophy, reduce muscle spasms and improve circulation.  Paperwork has been submitted to the inusurance companies but i was told it usually is not approved and can take 9-12 months for a determination.  This is an important piece of equiptment for Brandon's physical recovery but the purchase price is very costly at about $23,000.00.  This is not something one can easily afford so i am reaching out to anyone can offer help.  We want the best for Brandon's future with a quick recovery.  He was a basketball player, playing for two teams...hoping this was a good year.  We want him to get his life back, gain function in his hand, learn to drive and all the normal things a now 17 year old does...any size contribution will help...
