NORTHWEST BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES “DONATE 28”
In 1992, Northwest Behavioral Health Services, Inc. (NWBH) was founded by a group of African American community volunteers to provide behavioral health services to various ethnicities who are part of the economically depressed and underserved populations in Duval and Nassau Counties. Over the past 30 years, NWBH has served over 21,000 children, adults and families.
NWBH is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation chartered by the State of Florida in April 1992 and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities (CARF). NWBH is state certified as a mental health agency and is licensed by The Department of Children and Families as a provider for substance abuse treatment.
Its mission is to improve the quality of life for children, adults and families who are experiencing mental health problems, social maladjustments and other at-risk behaviors so that they can live meaningful, healthy and productive lives in their community of choice.
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected many individuals’ mental health, placing a greater demand on our agency to provide critical behavioral health services to the underserved mental health community. The individuals we serve suffer from Depression, Anxiety, Bullying, Suicidal Ideations, Schizophrenia, Homelessness, Low Self-esteem, Poverty, Gender Identity Crisis, Grief and Loss of a Loved One, Unemployment/Job Loss and much more.
Suicide, for instance, is the second leading cause of deaths for teens not to mention a 73% spike in teen suicide attempts in the Black American community. More and More adults are suffering from anxiety for their fear of losing their jobs and or their loved ones.
To address these maladies, NWBH Services provides Therapy, Psychiatric and Medication Management, Targeted Case Management, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Grief Counseling, Teen Suicide Workshops, Eviction Prevention Workshops for residents who live in low-income housing, Assessments, SOAR and Trauma Hotline and Mobile Services (24/7). Additionally, NWBH owns 18 single living apartment units that houses adults with mental health disorders funded by Federal HUD.
In addition to the human toll, the pandemic has impacted our agency financially with unpredictable business disruptions resulting in a 50% loss in revenue in our business units. We need your support! Donate 28 is our Funding Campaign asking for donations starting at $28 to help us reach our goal of $250,000.00. This will support the agency’s mission to serve our underserved mentally challenged children, adults and families.
We must keep NWBH afloat so that the rising pressures of life (poverty, inflation, the lack of quality affordable housing and the Pandemic) do not push this population into a deeper deficit. Your contributions can be the lifeblood to enhancing our ability to continue to serve the community with the comprehensive mental health care, love and compassion they richly deserve! Please help us to continue to be THE AGENCY that the community can depend on… Donate 28!
