8 Orphans and a Granma

While volunteering in Guatemala a year ago I met an Indigenous family. Grandma Carlota's eldest daughter died of stomach cancer 2 years ago leaving Carlota and her 2 youngest children to care for the 6 grand-kids.  As you can see in the pictures the youngest is only 2 years old. They are in desperate need of a refurbished kitchen. Most of you wouldn't believe how rough their cookshack is now; smokey and dark, the animals can get in so the floor is impossible to keep sanitary especially in rainy season. The little ones are getting some kind of infection on their feet.... we can't let this happen. Together you and I can help them dramatically improve their well-being.  Their life is very very hard, and yet they are beautiful welcoming generous people. 
Sometimes it can be hard to know where your charitable funds go, but this is as direct action as you can get without building the kitchen yourself. I recently sent the family a few hundred dollars via Western Union so we can get the funds to them and I have a contractor willing to oversee the project down there. 
Normally I just try and do these kinds of things without asking for help but I can't afford much right now and I actually see this as a chance that any of you might take to share your privilege and generosity. Giving fills me with satisfaction and hope. There is nothing I can buy that can give me that feeling. Please, let's make sure this Que'chi Mayan family has the basics so those beautiful kids can be healthy and have a decent chance at a good life.
