We are not an afterthought.
We are not the butt of the joke.
And we certainly aren’t just “sexy for a big girl”.
We are tired of seeing network tv perpetuate this illusion that women of size are obsessed with losing weight. We are tired of shows that only highlight a plus size woman when she’s had some “coming to jesus” moment about wanting to be thin or she realizes the guy doesn’t like her.
We are ready to show you a woman loving on her body, grounded in her body and desirable in her body RIGHT NOW and not after she’s reached some unattainable beauty standard set by the diet/weightloss industry.
We are here to tell you a nuanced story, that accurately portrays women of size as human.
More than anything we know that media defines culture. And we want you to help us create a change in the way women of size are portrayed.
If media defines culture, it also defines the way our youth begin to see themselves. Many of us grew up saturated in weight loss commercials and thinness as the standard. This dysfunctional message created a deep pain point for many young people who just didn’t measure up. Our intention is that by showing people of size,living, creating and being normal people we will help our youth grow into a culture that celebrates them as they are.
