Mom's Leukemia Fund

Thank you for taking a few minutes to read about an event that took our family by surprise and to find out how you can help.

We are the Meches...a very close family filled with love and support.  Growing up, our parents were always there for us whenever we needed anything.  Guiding words, life lessons, and monetary support helped my brother and me reach our goals and become respectful young men.

The older we got, the more difficult the guiding words, life lessons, and costs became.  Near the end of March 2014, our mother, Lisa, went in for a checkup after feeling weak and out of breath.  Doctors discovered that she needed a blood transfusion from being anemic and losing blood.  This was a small shock to us all, but we knew that she would get through this.

A few days later, after more tests were run, we were faced with the news that our mother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a cancer of the blood.

The next few days were tough.  Constantly thinking and wondering how something like this could happen to a person like our mother. Our mom is the most gentle, sweetest, most caring, and hard working person that I know.  The saying goes, "Bad things happen to those who do not deserve it."  I do believe that this saying fits right in our situation.

There is hope.  AML is treatable.  Our mom is strong and healthy enough that doctors are expecting a very good outcome after a gruesome regimen of chemotherapy.  It will be a long and expensive process.

As my brother and I have always told our parents that the cost of college would pay off when we were settled with careers and would be able to pay them back, we are not quite there yet!  We need your help to be able to give this gift to our parents after tossing recent expenses on top of the boulder of worries that our family is carrying.

We are sincerely asking for monetary donations from anyone that would like to help support our mother's journey through treatment.  Every dollar and every prayer or wishful thinking helps.

There are also other ideas in the works right now.  We are planning to have a fish fry to raise money for the family.  Any donations collected before then will be used to cover the supplies needed to make this event happen.  Details will be available once they are sorted out.

There is also an account at Chase Bank in Opelousas called "Lisa Meche Donation Fund"  (account #3006077985) that contributors can donate directly to.  You should be able to stop at any Chase Bank branch to donate.

There are no words to express our appreciation.  Thank you all for taking the time to hear our story.

Your support will forever mean the world to us, just like our mother does.
