Fighting Giants

Our lives were completely changed on September 1st when our sweet 8-year old son, Blake began complaining of an extremely severe headache at the swimming pool. We rushed him to the ED, where the team discovered that an aneurism (inside an arteriovenous malformation or AVM) had caused a very significant intracranial bleed. Blake was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, and an angiogram the next day stopped the bleeding. Drains were inserted to remove the excess blood and he was placed in a medically-induced coma for about two weeks. This allowed his brain the best possible chance to heal while the blood drained. Blake spent the next twenty-five days in the Pediatric ICU.

We’ve watched, waited and prayed, and so, so so many people have joined us in those prayers, and we’ve seen amazing things on this journey. Blake is doing so much better than doctors projected. He is already in Pediatric Inpatient Rehab, and making incredible progress. He has faced the giants of this very significant brain bleed, and survived. He has begun to talk again, is learning to walk again, is working to regain more strength in his left arm and leg, and even with this challenging experience and heaps of medications, he is now smiling, laughing and bravely working toward a full recovery.

Blake has faced a giant obstacle and we are Raising Hallelujahs of gratitude that he is overcoming! Our family now faces another obstacle, in the form of a very significant medical debt associated with this journey. Our health care sharing ministry will cover the first $250,000 of Blake’s bills, but just those twenty-five days in the ICU exceeded that total by more than a third, and the current estimated total cost is more than double that amount.

As Blake works to overcome this traumatic brain injury, we are believing that this financial giant will fall, just like every other giant has, and we will be able to focus on continuing to be right by Blake’s side, helping him recover, grow stronger, and reintegrate into life with our family when we finally get to bring our boy HOME!

We’ve set a goal of raising $350,000 to cover Blake’s medical expenses. If 2,000 people gave $100 each, it would very significantly reduce the financial giant we are facing. Thank you friends, for praying Blake healed and well, and supporting our family in SO many ways through this. We have never been so overwhelmed with kindness and generosity and prayers and love. Together we are Raising a mighty Hallelujah — this story isn’t over yet, but it is already so incredibly glorious!!!!
