Helping Ava Miller and Jordan Hecocks

The Frayser family and Davis family are reach out asking for help for Ava Miller and Jordan Hecocks as they try to survive two unbelievable tragedies. Ava and Jordan have been staples of the Old Chicago community for a decade. They were both amazing servers and bartenders who were not only amazing at their jobs, but their customer service skills reached far beyond the restaurants themselves and helped them to build communities of restaurant goers, who came far and wide just to visit with their favorite servers. They were not just servers, but also friends and family to many and have been there for many in their times of need.

Unfortunately, it is now their time of need. Currently Jordan is on life support fighting MRSA, a flesh-eating bacteria, which began in his chin and has spread throughout his whole upper body. He has lost a significant amount of muscle in his neck and has significant nerve damage from the disease and the four surgeries he has had to endure. However, the infection is not all gone and at this point Jordan remains intubated and will have to have at minimum four more surgeries before they can begin to wake him up. When he does wake, he will have a long road of recovery.

In November Ava suffered multiple strokes and seizures, and went into cardiac arrest five times, which left her intubated and in a coma for several weeks before finally having heart surgery to implant and ICD, which is a battery powered device placed directly into her chest which can monitor her heart and shock it when needed to restore it to a regular heartbeat. She is doing much better but has yet to fully recover and is now by Jordan’s bedside, not remembering the times when he was by hers.

These two have worked their hearts out for years, building strong relationships and providing some of the best service that any server ever has. They have helped us all for so long, it is now our turn to help them. Ava had only just been given the approval to return to work when Jordan was intubated. We are still not sure where the end of the road is for Jordan or when he will be able to return to work. We are hoping to help them be able to keep their housing and utilities operating during this challenging time, until they are able to get back on their feet again. The situation Ava and Jordan find themselves in, is truly unbelievable and the last four months have taken a tremendous toll on them. I know everyone who loves them, want to help in some way, and right now, this is all we are able to do for them.
