Hi my name is Aliyah Johnson,
From the 22nd to the 27th of July 2014, the best U20 Athletes in the world will descend on Eugene, Oregon, USA to represent their country at the IAAF World Junior Championships.
On Tuesday the 25th of March I was named in the Australian U20 Athletics team to compete in the Triple Jump at these championships after winning the australian U20 title with multiple qualfiers. The Australian team will depart in early July to Vancouver, Canada to train and compete for two weeks, and then we will head into Eugene for the championships.
Last year I represented Australia at the IAAF World Youth Championships in the Heptathlon and placed 4th, so agonizingly close to a medal. After this experience, I set myself a goal of making the World Junior team with hope of a better outcome and being recently selected on this team, I feel I am half way there.
I believe that this trip will be a great opportunity for me, as I am just 17 years old, competing up against 18 and 19 year old athletes. By competing at these championships, it is another stepping stone for me as an athlete on the road to reaching my dream of representing Australia in Track and Field at future Commonwealth and Olympic Games. I am currently ranked #1 in Australia for Triple Jump in the Under 20 age group and ranked 3rd in Australia in the open age group.
Leading into world juniors, I will have to purchase new jumps spikes and training shoes as well as pay for the numerous physio and podiatry appointments on top of having to fund myself to Eugene. Over the past season I have trained up to 5 days a week and travelled domestically to Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne to compete in National Athletics Series competitions out of my own pocket to give myself competition opportunity against the best open athletes in the country.
This trip is entirely self-funded and in order to get there, I am going to need some assistance. Any donations in getting me to these world championships, small or large would be extremely helpful and thoroughly appreciated.
