hi everyone, and thanks for visiting my donations page!
i am a biracial trans law student at Northeastern University School of Law, and i will be taking the Georgia bar exam on February 24-25, 2015 - if i pass and get sworn in, that's the last step to becoming a lawyer! i hope to find work in the same areas i have been training in: prisoners' rights or legal services. i also intend to continue organizing for trans & queer liberation (including/especially trans health), prison abolition, and solidarity with the people of Palestine.
i created this page to raise funds to pay for the many expenses associated with studying for and taking the bar exam**:
- $500 fee to file the "fitness application"
- $436 fee to file the bar exam application
- $2,080 to take a BARBRI test prep course*
- $242 (GoFundMe's 8% cut from the subtotal :( )
without assistance, it's pretty unlikely that i can afford to study for and take the exam. unfortunately, it is not an option for me to stay with or otherwise be supported by my family of origin. i have no savings, poor credit, and the student loans i took out for tuition and living expenses do not cover these costs.
i would deeply appreciate any amount you can contribute! please also share this page widely. thank you so much!! <3

*note added 3/31/14: while there is a far less expensive test prep course out there in some states --Themis-- it is my understanding that this company does not provide a test prep course for the Georgia bar exam. see http://www.themisbar.com/pass-the-bar-exam. BARBRI has offered me a reduced fee given my circumstances ($2,080 down from $3,025), and i have also been discussing a discount with a Kaplan rep. i will go with whichever company i can afford, if any.
**the target amount reflects application and test prep expenses. if donations exceed this amount, they will go to return travel and living expenses during the study period- December 2014 through February 2015.
