Help Debbie get a smile for her daughter

Donation protected
Hi everyone "“ my name is Anthony. I'm about to do something I've never done before - I'm about to ask for help. It's not for me - it's for my wife, Debbie. I guess this is going to sound a bit strange but, what I need help with, is to give my wife a smile again. In just a few short months our daughter, Aimee, is getting married and I want Debbie to be able to smile on that special day. Let me explain briefly.

Sixteen years ago Debbie gave birth by cesarean section to our fourth child, Declan. Due to complications a hysterectomy was required which led to severe pain in Debbie's stomach and right leg. Five long surgeries followed but the problem got worse each time. In fact it got so bad that Debbie couldn't pick Declan up for 12 months. We later discovered that nerves had been damaged which was causing all the agony. We pursued legal options and were told we had a very strong case then only to find out it would be very expensive but we weren't in a financial position to pursue it. We just had to let it go and get on with our lives.

As the pain management problem worsened I ended up having to give up work for 3 years so that I could help do all the things necessary to raise our four young children. Over the years we've had about 6 teenagers live with us to help with all the things that Debbie can't do. By now Debbie had been prescribed five different types of pain medication "“ one of which, unbeknown to us, had the horrible side-effect of causing her teeth to rot. And, at that stage, there was no alternative.

As our daughters grew up they started to care for Debbie so that I could go back to work. But there was little improvement in her situation. The allergy injections she needed, because she was allergic to 1 of the medications, were causing her to sleep for up to 20 hours a day and she had also started collapsing regularly and having seizures. I won't lie to you "“ things got very serious and we were forced to sell our house. After a number of years our GP in collaboration with our dentist found a new pain medication that at least didn't rot her teeth any more.

Over the years Debbie has had to endure a lot more than just the pain. You can imagine what it must be like watching your children grow up and not being able to do all the things that a normal mother probably takes for granted. She couldn't drive a car for six years. She's never been able to pick up our kids from school.

All she wants now is a beautiful smile for Aimee's wedding day. Of course fixing her teeth will also lessen the pain she experiences when eating and enable her to eat normal food. But it's going to take a lot to make things right. Dentures, crowns, root canals "“ the list goes on. We've secured many quotes from different countries "“ some of them are over $40 000. But we have one Australian dental quote for $20 000 "“ so that's the amount we're looking for.

As a film-maker, I would like to make this special offer to anyone out there who has a business. If you contribute $4000 or more towards our campaign I am willing to make a short corporate video for your company. Contact me and we can discuss the details. And, of course, as a heartfelt thank you everyone will receive a photo of Debbie smiling with Aimee on her wedding day. We send out this appeal with great humility and gratitude. Thank you so much.
