It is easy for people to shake their head and dismiss my dream of traveling, influencing, and ultimately changing the world. Small minds won't understand the reasoning behind my journey. I am a 20 year old Junior at Buffalo State College located in New York. The first time I fell in love was my Junior year in high school on my Europe trip... And it was with Big Ben. These past pictures are from my 2010 highschool journey to the UK.
I believe that my infatuation with traveling comes from my need for exploration. I love the idea of jumping head first into a culture different from my own. Learning language, trying unique food, understanding the customs, and communicating with the people are all things I believe will make an individual intelligent.
I got accepted to study abroad in Manchester, England to earn my minor in Criminal Justice, however this time next year I will have my B.A in Psychology. While I am in England, I will be attending Manchester Metropolitan University. While in Manchester, I will be studying as a full time Criminology student. The courses include: Forensic Science and Applied Criminology, Criminology and Sociology, Criminology and Politics, and also History and Sociology. I am interested in receiving my minor in Criminal Justice because the amount of job opportunities will significantly increase. I love helping those who are less fortunate so I have volunteered at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center every Monday and Wednesday. During this time I worked with the patients who were clinically ill. I have seen the damage these individuals carry within their soul and it breaks my heart. I am hoping after undergrad to go to a graduate school, and eventually receive my doctorates in Psychology, along with my minor in Criminal Justice. Individuals shouldn't be living on the street due to an illness they can't control, and someday I hope my education will help prove this point. I will do anything in my power to support individuals who need the help and I want to change the system the world has created for all the individuals who have been pushed to the "back burner".
...Now Back to England... The campus is 30.5 minutes from London, and only just a short bus or train trip to Spain, Italy, and France. My trip consists of a semester long journey starting in September 2014 and I will be gone until December 2014. While I am in the UK, I will be living with multiple roomates sharing an apartment. I plan to budget my money as much as possible to make it last, however this opportunity is very expensive. I am asking for ANY amount of donations possible, because every bit helps. The total funds of my trip are close to $19,000 (this includes books, airfare, tuition, insurance, food and housing along with recreational spending). Please help me pursue my dreams!
