Help the Bonillas'

This holiday season, in lieu of gifts, we are conitinuing our efforts to help those still picking up the pieces in Harvey's wake.

Meet the Bonillas Family. 

Maria Bonillas is a young mother of two adorable little girls, Joselyn (4) and Brianna (1.5). My kids were dropping off supplies near an apartment complex when they ran into Maria. The family lost everything to Harvey except their car. Maria works as a nanny. Her elderly mother in-law (who lives with Maria and the girls) works the night-shift as a custodian. Maria also cleans part-time. Harvey hit on Joselyn's birthday. Because the family lost everything, Maria had to cancel her party. My daughter and her friends brought over a few toys and balloons (pictured below) so this little girl could at least have something to look forward to amidst all of the devastation. Since we found out they were all sleeping on the floor, Ashley Furniture HomeStore Houston donated some beds, as well. 

Maria acted very quickly. As soon as the rain cleared, she went out in search of an apartment near a bus stop--crucial for the Bonillas' stability as her mother in-law relies on the bus for work. She signed on to the only unit she could find. Unfortunately, it costs $395/month more than what she was paying at her old (now flooded) place, which is over $4,700/year more than she can afford. We have raised $600 for Maria.

This holiday season, we are out to raise $4,100 to ease the burden Maria and her girls now face. On top of everything, she has been struggling to get out of her lease at her old (flooded) apartment, so knowing that she will at least be able to afford to live somewhere else for now will be a huge help.
