Hello, This is our 18 year old son, Austin Jay Smith. Austin loves riding his dirt bike, fourwheeler, and Sassy, his horse. He loves kayaking and floating down the Illinois River and camping on Lake Keystone. Austin loves nature, animals and just being a teenager.
On March 23rd, 2014 he made a bad choice to go out late one night and take his friends mudding, resulting in an car wreck that has left him paralyzed from his belly button down.
Our family seeks your help for a few reasons.1.) Austin's health insurance will only cover 15 sessions of physical and occupational therapy. We are hoping to raise enough money to pay for a specialized spinal cord injury rehabiliatation facility. 2.) All of the rehabilitation centers that are accredited and specialized in spinal cord injuries are out of the State ok Oklahoma. I will have to quit my job after my FMLA runs out and will have no income to to pay for our home expenses and travel expenses.3.) My son is graduating on May 10th and has earned a certification in auto mechanics at Tulsa Tech. His life is just beginning! We are desperate to find a way for our son to get every chance to walk again, have a family, a career and do the things that he loves so much!
There are 14 different accredited spinal cord rehabilitation centers throughout the United States. We are researching each one to find the best place to facilitate the kind of rehab he needs. These facilities have the latest technology and research in spinal cord injuries. The average cost for this kind of rehabilitation is approximately 1000.00 dollars per day.
If there is a 1 in a million chance for Austin to walk again we are willing to do whatever it takes to give him that opportunity! Our family seeks your assistance to help our son ,Austin, to walk, ride Sassy and his fourwheeler, work , have a family, and career someday. The bad choice he made on that tragic night does not define our son he is also a young man that is a hardworker, lover of nature, family man, and has a zest for life that motivates those around him everyday! Please help my son walk again.
