Scott's Weight Loss Journey

Hello my name is Scott Rumery and I come to you today to ask for your help. This is something that I do with a lot of humility and to be perfectly honest with you, a great deal of fear.

First I should give you a little background information about myself.

I am 46 years old and I live in Jasper, GA with my beautiful wife Bronwyn and our wonderful 16 year old daughter Makayla.

I am blind but it is important for everyone to know that this has nothing to do with my particular situation. I just think that I should be as honest with everyone who views this campaign as I can be.

What is my situation? I am so glad that you asked that question. (it is also very important that everyone knows that I do still have my sense of humor)

My situation is that I am morbidly obese. There, I said it. Yes, I am a very large man and if I do not lose a lot of weight soon I may not be around a heck of a lot longer and that is something that I have just recently been able to admit to myself.

How obese am I? Currently I weigh 453 pounds. I can't believe that I am telling the world this but as I said earlier, I need to be completely honest with everyone so I am letting you all know just how dire this situation is for me.

Now I know that I did not get to be this big overnight, and I know that I am not going to get out of this mess overnight either. This has happened over a lifelong addiction to food and more specifically the wrong types of food.

There is hope for me though. It is Bariatric surgery. Now I know that surgery is not the end all and be all for losing weight, but for someone like myself it can be the option that will ultimately lead to a long lasting and very significant weight loss.

I have found a great weight loss program here in Georgia called Obesity Solutions.

This place has a complete program. They are with the patient from pre-op to after the operation. They have support groups that will help the patient to stay on coarse after the surgery and probably for me the most important thing is that they are dedicated to educating their patients on how to make better choices when it comes time to eat.

I have already had my first appointment with the people at Obesity Solutions and I really like everyone a lot in their office. The Dr. is really nice and more importantly, he is very experienced with Bariatric Surgery.

Now comes the part where I need to ask you to help me with the cost of the surgery.

My particular surgery which will be the Gastric Sleeve will cost at least $20,000. Fortunately I do have Medicare insurance. Unfortunately this insurance will only cover 80% of the cost. I will need to come up with the rest which I am told will be anywhere from $2500 to $4000.

Being a family that lives on Social Security Disability we just do not have that kind of money.

This is why that I come to you today to ask if you would be kind enough to donate to my Go Fund Me campaign.

Any amount will help. If you can only afford $1 or $5, or even $10 it will all go toward funding this life saving surgery for me and my family.
