Support Domestic Violence Victims

Donation protected
Thank you for taking the time to read about this endeavor! Push onward to learn about how I am supporting Lydia’s House with my Paddle for a Cause campaign.

If you are like me, you know someone—possibly more than one person—who has had their life significantly impacted by domestic violence. It is not often talked about, but it is everywhere. It affects our rural communities, our suburban communities, and our urban communities. Lydia’s House is a certified charity that assists victims of domestic violence and their children recover from these traumatic experiences by giving them safety, shelter, and the support they need.

When you hear tales of domestic abuse, it can often feel paralyzing. Not knowing how to help, or how to reach out a hand in friendship, can be frustrating and demoralizing. That’s why Healthcare Technology Advisors has chosen to partner with Lydia’s House. This non-profit is actively working in our communities to help victims in the greater St Louis area heal.

Most of you know me as a friend, family member, or business colleague from Healthcare Technology Advisors—or possibly a prior venture! And I’d be willing to bet almost all of you know that I enjoy outdoor activities and spend my free time outside in nature as much as possible.  My nature of choice most often involves a river, a buoyant craft of some kind, and a paddle.

This year has been a trying one for my river thirst, due to multiple shoulder and arm injuries, all in my right arm. The most recent and severe injury was a shoulder dislocation at the end of April. I tell you this, because I am also getting ready to challenge myself to the MR 340—a 340 mile paddle in less than 88 hours on the Missouri River.

While my injuries hinder my ability to be active and do what I like, they have the benefit of being self-inflicted. With proper treatment, they will heal. I cannot imagine the pain adults and children afflicted by domestic violence go through. Their pain does not go away when their physical injuries heal. It endures, and is often hidden.

I intend to share stories about my current struggles, and all the upcoming, unforeseen hurdles, on the journey to heal my injuries enough to complete a 340-mile journey across the state of Missouri in order to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence.

I am asking you; my friends, my family, and my colleagues, to join me in my journey to help members of our community who have been abused recover from their physical and psychological injuries.

I’m seeking to raise at least $10,000 for Lydia’s House.  Your contributions will go directly to Lydia’s House—I am self-funding my training and entry into the MR340, and no donation money will go to assist me in this journey.

$85 – Bronze – Tax Donation Letter – You have funded one quarter of the miles of the race!

$170 – Silver – Tax Donation Letter – Day float trip with Derrick in Missouri / Northwest Arkansas - You helped me through half the grueling paddle!

$340 – Gold – Tax Donation Letter – Overnight float trip with Derrick in Missouri / Northwest Arkansas – 340 miles for $340! Thank you for funding every mile of my race.

$680 – Platinum – Tax Donation Letter – Ticket to Lydia’s House Annual Gala in St. Louis, MO – Choice of float trip (overnight or day) with Derrick in Missouri / Northwest Arkansas – Your contribution will help victims of domestic violence, and remind us all to go the extra miles to help those in need.

I will be training for this 340 mile Paddle for a Cause until August 7th. On August 8th I will set out from the Kaw River in Kansas City and begin paddling my way to St. Charles, MO with the hope of completing this paddling experience by Friday, August 11th at midnight. I’ll be sharing stories through the weekend as I recover and will run this campaign through August 14th.

Time is of the essence to help Healthcare Technology Advisors and I meet our goal to help our community. Your support will fuel my internal will to overcome my physical challenges, knowing that we are doing good work for the community.

I’m paddling 340 miles for Lydia’s House and victims of domestic violence. How many extra miles will you go?
