Evelyn's Medical Expenses

Hello everyone! This page is dedicated to my niece Evelyn. She is a 5 year old girl from the Western New York area. She is currently in kindergarten. Evelyn also has a 6 year old sister, as well as a 3 year old brother. The start to the year 2014 was pretty average. We celebrated Christmas, we celebrated New Years and maybe a birthday or two here and there. Everything seemed normal, like it was turning out to be a great year! Then came the unexpected. Nothing in the world could have prepared our family for the news we were about to receive. To make a long story short, at the end of February, Evelyn had a seizure at school. She was rushed to Children's Hospital of Buffalo for a CAT scan. It resulted in bleeding on the brain. Further tests revealed that she had a mass in her left frontal lobe. She was then admitted into Children's Hospital and prepped for a craniotomy that was to be performed the following week. Surgery was a success. Dr. Li and the staff at childrens were amazing. Scans revealed that the tumor was successfully removed and she went on to recover to her old self within days. She even ended up going back to school the following week! It is amazing to me how such a small, fragile little girl could have so much strength in her. Nothing at this point seemed to phase her. Not even brain surgery! I could only hope that I could have that kind of courage some day. It was truly a miracle. But now, for the grueling waiting game. The tumor was sent out for diagnosis immediately. It wasn't until it reached it's third opinion (3 long weeks later) that they concluded it was a Neurocytoma. Although this is considered a Stage II, it still has the potential to be an aggressive type of cancer. Evelyn was accepted into St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, TN and is currently undergoing radiation therapy. If it wasn't for all of our family, friends, doctors, nurses, and above all, God, I don't think we would have made it through this terrible time in our lives. All your thoughts and prayers are being heard, and we encourage you to keep sending them. God is listening. He is answering our prayers. Although we are finally on the (long) road to recovery, the reality of our financial burden is setting in. Her medical bills are well into the six figure mark at this point and growing each day. I created this page for Evelyn and her family in hopes of finding people that want to help make a difference. Family, friends, and even strangers alike! The more people that hear her story, the better! Any monetary donation collected in this account will fully go towards the payment of medical expenses incurred during this difficult time. Any extra money that is raised after her medical expenses are paid for, will be generously donated to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, as well as St. Jude's hospital in Memphis Tennessee on behalf of our family. I want to personally thank you beforehand, from the bottom of my heart,
for any thoughts, prayers, donations, words of encouragement or advice that you are willing to
offer us. It will never go unnoticed. There are no words to express how thankful I am for each any every person who took the time to read Evelyn's story, contribute and help make a difference to her and her family. I will continue to update everyone with her condition, as well as how her treatment is going, with my sisters blessing of course. I will also be hosting a benefit in the near future. Please keep your ears open! You will be hearing something sooner rather than later. Again, many thanks, and God bless all of you!
