Yanik's Battle

I write with purpose, and a solicitation.
My friend Carmen, has a 15 year old son Yanik, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in July last year. I knew the family when we all lived in Port Douglas. They are a genuine, and loving family.
Imagine being 15, and travelling the 2000km back home from long arduous sessions of chemotherapy knowing your family's everyday creature comforts are slowly dwindling down to nothing. A bike you once took joy in riding now sits with a sticker asking ¼ or an eighth of the price, or seeing your Mum or sister trying to keep a strong front, knowing you are powerless to help.
Carmen is a single Mum raising Yanik, and his 11 year old sister. Her son Yanik has been fighting the battle of his life. He is a beautiful young Aussie boy, morally just, has much yet to experience in life, and is still with hope. His sister, well, she is in awe of her big brother, and would move Heaven and Earth to make everything go away.
Carmen used to teach swimming to many of the children in Port Douglas and those on the Club squads, as well as many Surf Lifesaving Nippers. She has always been very community minded.
This wonderful and kind family has been through the ringer as a result of this diagnosis; Yanik more so from the extensive chemotherapy treatment he has had, and must endure again, and again. He has also lost his hair as it happens...watched it grow back, to face the same fate- another hardship for a young man.
They live in Cairns, and are required to fly to Brisbane for his chemotherapy treatments which, on top of medical and accommodation costs for Carmen, is an expense that has been financially onerous. Unfortunately, Carmen has not been able to continue working full-time due to her commitments to care for Yanik. They have been forced to have numerous garage sales to help try to survive. Friends can only do so much...
If everyone could just make a small donation, share this post, email the link to everyone in their email address book; imagine what we could do for this young man? It would provide some financial respite for Carmen, let Yanik continue to travel, get therapy, continue to fight for his life without feeling like a burden with every garage sale.
