Laura Cannizzo-Gmerek Beat Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Laura Cannizzo-Gmerek is a 41 year old dear friend, dedicated wife, and loving mother of twin 5 year old boys - Maxwell and Joseph. She is an amazing and beautiful person who is adored by her children, husband, family friends, and quite frankly - everyone that has come to know her. She is full of life, passion, and love and lives each day for her family and her two beautiful boys.

In May of 2012, Laura experienced an unusually severe and debilitating headache, which prompted her to go out for a walk in an attempt to alleviate the pain. She suddenly fell and hit her head on the pavement and unbeknownst to her she had suffered a seizure. Fortunately, her husband Kris was home and called an ambulance right away. Upon arrival at the hospital, they learned that Laura had already suffered a series of seizures.

After emergency surgery, the doctors determined that Laura had a malignant brain tumor known as a Glioblastoma
(Commonly known as recurrent GBM). The tumor was removed successfully and Laura started a treatment plan which encompassed radiation and oral chemotherapy. The treatment plan lasted for approximately one year. Unfortunately, as the plan neared its end and during a routine scan, it was detected that the cancer came back. This time, however, the cancer was determined to be inoperable.

Laura initially underwent two clinical trials to attempt to combat this most recent diagnosis. Despite same, the clinical trials were unsuccessful forcing Laura to now have to undergo very aggressive chemotherapy. Depending on Laura's response to the current therapies, the duration and frequency of the future treatment plan will be assessed by her doctors.

Unequivocally, these aggressive treatment plans have impacted Laura and her family both physically and financially. Due to the debilitating nature of the treatments, Laura is unable to care for her twin boys in the form and manner that she is accustomed to. Although Laura would love to embrace each moment with her children, and share in the beauty of their days, she often finds herself so nauseous, weak, and ultimately unable to endure everyday life. For obvious reasons, Laura is now unable to work, thus leaving her husband Kris solely responsible for the financial support of both the family obligations and Laura's medical treatment. Due to these restrictive financial constraints, they are unable to obtain hired childcare providers to assist them with the care of Maxwell and Joseph and quite simply, their bills have become excessive.

It is at this time, despite Laura's reluctancy to ask for help, that her friends and family have come together. We seek not only your prayers, but your support both financially and emotionally to join us in our fight to overcome Laura's battle with brain cancer. Each prayer.....each well wish........each donation matters....not only to Laura, but to her husband and twin 5 year old boys.

We offer our sincere thanks for all of your prayers, love, and contributions. We also ask that you share this gofundme page with your friends and loved ones, and spread the word through Facebook, e-mails, phone calls, and any possible channels that will help spread the word and help Laura and her family.

Every step brings us closer to our goal....and every step we take touches Laura's soul.
