Hi, my name is Lilly . I am an eight-year-old pug, and I was recently diagnosed with Patella Luxation.
For those of you unfamiliar with Patella Luxation, it is a condition where the patella, which is the kneecap, slips in and out of its groove. The patella can dislocate out from its groove, and therefore prevents the knee from extending out properly. It is a genetic condition that can affect cats and dogs but is most common in smaller dog breeds. Due to this, patella luxation not only leaves me in immense discomfort, but also poses a risk to my quality of life.
In most cases, the patella luxates towards the inside of the leg. This is caused by a combination of multiple factors which ultimately lead to cause a misalignment of the patella. My patella luxation is regarded as Grade 3: This means that the patella is out of position most of the time and can be manipulated back into place but will luxate again quickly. However, I think soon enough I will be in Grade 4: Which would mean my patella is permanently out of position and cannot be manipulated into the trochlear groove at all.
Over the course of 2020, I have had to attend the vet on multiple occasions (against my will, of course) as it quickly became apparent how poorly I was becoming. After many consultations, medication, an x-ray and further advice, it was confirmed that I had patella luxation and therefore recommended that I go in for surgery to fix me up all good.

However, due to my parents' utmost devotion in caring for me, twinned with the disaster that has been 2020 and the Coronavirus, they have exercised almost all their resources. Also due to both working in the hospitality sector and not being able to save for my operation because of still being on furlough, I now find myself slippery situation.
Upon recommendation from our vet that the surgery must be done, we discovered that alongside pre & post op appointments, medication, and x-rays, that my ongoing care would cost my parent’s a lot of money that they have not been able to save.
Furthermore, the recommended surgery would have to be performed by a specialist orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in fixing patella luxation for little doggo’s such as myself.
After further assessment, my parents were notified that the overall cost for my care would be within the region of £2,500 to £4,000 (Could you imagine how many treats I could get with that amount of money?! ). This is because of the severity of pre and post-surgery care I will need to fix my poor little leg.
Which brings me to why you are here today: I am asking with my big puppy dog eyes for all sorts of donations, big or small, to help my parents afford my care so I can continue my daily walkies with my papa. Continue to run up and down the stairs much to my parents’ dismay. To continue chasing and jumping off furniture after my fat pink piggy toy. But most importantly, to continue my life without pain and discomfort.
If you cannot donate, a share or mention would be massively appreciated. I would not normally do this, but my parents and I think that I am pretty darn worth it.
