Hi! I’m Daisy, and that cute little fluffy guy up there is Toby. Toby is a 12 y/o Birman mix who sure as heck never acts his age :)
This morning I got a call from my roommate letting me know that Toby threw up a flower, and upon calling the animal poison control line we learned that it was a true lily.
These flowers are extremely toxic to cats when ingested- even if they throw them up. If treated quickly, most cats can make a full recovery, although this involves keeping the cat in a clinic for around 42 hours. If not treated, the toxins destroy the kidneys, causing kidney failure within 72 hours.
For the last 12 years Toby has been the light of my life, and has never failed to brighten even my darkest of days. Although, I had no idea how expensive the treatment would be for Toby after he ate this lily, and in the past 7 hours my world has been flipped upside down.
I was quoted 5500 for his full treatment. Because he also has a heart murmur, he can’t get all his fluids through IV as it stresses the heart, so he has to also have tube fluids, which are expensive. On top of that he would be receiving full time care for 2 days, while they test his blood to make sure his kidneys aren’t deteriorating in the process.
Tonight (Sunday) they are giving him fluids and sending him home against the doctors wishes, because I don’t have the money to keep him here and they don’t offer a payment plan. If he can make it through the night, tomorrow morning I will bring him into a vet with a payment plan so they can start proper treatment.
Toby means the world to me, and I’m looking at facing extreme finical distress in light of this situation. Anything- and I mean anything helps so so much. I would give anything to have my baby boy be healthy again. Thank you for taking the time to read this, it means a lot.
Much love,
Daisy & Toby
