A Townsend-area fire in the 1000 block of Grears Road displaced three people and caused $100,000 in damages, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Townsend Fire Company responded shortly after 3 p.m. Friday to the unoccupied home after a neighbor alerted officials smoke was coming from the house, Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio said in a statement.
When officials arrived, flames were shooting from the roof of the one-story home, Chionchio said. The fire was eventually put out, and no injuries were reported, Chionchio said. The home, however, was heavily damaged.
The cause of the fire is unknown. State police and the state fire investigators are examining the incident.
New Castle County Paramedics also responded to the fire to provide medical support to the firefighters, Cpl. David J. McKinney Jr. said in a statement.
