Dear Friends & Family,
First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit this webpage. I want to take this opportunity to explain to you my goal that I would like to accomplish in the next 2 months and a half, specifically on my birthday, June 15th. On this date, I will be turning 27 years old. Instead of the usual celebrations, I wanted to do something where I know I can get everyone to give me the best gift out there--"the gift of giving."
My friend Jama is a 26 year old African American that was diagnosed with Kidney Failure in August of 2009. She has been on dialysis ever since as she awaits for a kidney transplant. She was born with Sickle Cell Anemia, a painful and debilitating blood disease that can be fatal. Luckily, she received a Bone Marrow Transplant that saved her life. Although the Bone Marrow Transplant helped lessen the symptoms of the Sickle Cell Anemia, it did bring on it's own side effects, such as infections and eventually kidney failure.
Currently Jama is on the NY State Kidney Transplant List, hoping to get a new kidney from a donor.
In the mean time I am trying to raise money for financial responsibilities that will come up before, during, and after Jama's kidney transplant. This includes money to cover medical bills which can be very expensive. Also money raised will help with transportation to and from the hospital for check ups after the initial surgery. These visits will occur twice a week, every week for the first three months and then lessen to every two weeks for three months, and so forth. I also want to promote PUBLIC HEALTH AWARENESS on kidney transplant and sickle cell anemia.
