POR VICTOR

Victor Albarran Sanchez has lived and resided in the United States of America for over 13 years. From 2005 to the present time, Victor has been attending classes at Portland Community College, in pursuit of a degree in Computer Engineering.
Victor has been very active in his local community throughout his time in Portland. He has volunteered as a mentor for high school students at Jefferson High School and Benson High School. He has served as a role model for young students, encouraging them to take their studies seriously. Victor is a strong and active member of the of the Leadership Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ De Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A ) since 2005, serving and volunteering in our communities by participating in many leadership conferences in the State of Oregon, the Pacific Northwest Area, and also other states throughout the country to represent Portland, Oregon. In many occasions Victor volunteered his time to American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) organizing May Day rallies and helped make a video about the Dreamers. In the spare time he could find he volunteered at FreeGeek, where he taught people how to assemble commuters; that they could keep while also learning computer skills.
Victor has participated in leadership training through ASPCC and lobbied in Washington D.C. On behalf of Oregon college students that could benefit form a passage of the DREAM Act. In Oregon he was a strong advocate of Tuition Equity and Oregon Drivers license for all. His personal goal is to make important impacts in communities by serving and educating them. Victor displays excellent virtues of an active citizenship, and is an ideal candidate to remain in the United States to keep on making positive impacts in these communities. Update: To my family, friends and community. First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your unconditional support, as you all know by now I was released from by the Immigration Detention center at Tacoma. Thanks to all of your calls, e-mails and fundraising efforts, I am now free to serve my community once again. As I continue to fight for my case, I will work to help my community. I realize due to my situation that there are more brothers and sisters facing the same situation. The president promised that ICE would only go after those who have committed serious, heinous crimes. This does not mean arresting people only because they are not citizens. Everyday people are detained for minor offenses. And sent to ICE, where they are then sent to the for-profit detention center like the one in Tacoma, which is run by the GEO group using our public tax dollars. I invite all of you to join us in the fight by attending events, sending e-mails, making calls and donating if you can. Again I would like to say thank you for you kindness, my family and friends fundraising efforts have paid off. While the bond has been paid, there is a loan and legal fees that still need to be paid off. Any help that you can provide will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time. In Solidarity, Victor Albarran
