If anyone knows Lisa and Stacey, they’ll understand these two people have spent 20 years together devoting their lives and time to helping and serving others, both professionally and personally. When asked by a Child Service Department in Florida, to provide a permanent home to a newborn/premature baby and young girl, they didn’t hesitate for a moment. It took a long time to win full custody and came very close to losing them being adopted out into the system. After the great news, they were given less than two weeks to fully prepare their lives and make a trip to Florida to pick up the children. They eventually returned to Canada, happily and proudly, with an expanded family in tow.
Part of the initial arrangement and agreement were signing of documents to finalize and secure the children’s permanency before their one year residential authorization expired through Immigration. Sadly, and unfortunately, months have passed and the people responsible for finalizing documents have disappeared, being untraceable due to their own issues and litigation, and completely abandoning the situation. This was not part of the plan and certainly no one could have prepared Lisa and Stacey for what was to come having to embark through a lengthy process.
With every free hour Lisa has, she has now spent the past 3-4 months committed to the unforeseen task of keeping the children in Canada by working her way through many layers of Government, both in the US and Canada. The tiresome framework that surrounds this rare circumstance would normally be completed by a lawyer. Until now, Lisa and Stacey have bravely represented themselves with each legal hearing, in person and via phone. However, due to the Children being American, all of the Court Hearings take place in the US and they will need a Lawyer who practices in the State of Florida in order to timely complete the necessary documents required to avoid potential deportation of the Children.
